THIS WEEK: The 33rd-ranked Huskies (12-5, 0-2) return home for a pair of Pac-10 Conference matches against the Bay Area schools this week. The Huskies will take on No. 51 California on Friday, April 6 at 1 p.m. and No. 60 Stanford on Saturday, April 6 also at 1 p.m. The matches will take place at Bill Quilian Stadium, weather permitting, or the Nordstrom Tennis Center. Admission to the matches is free and fans can redeem free parking by checking in at the kiosk located west of Husky Stadium. Free pizza and complimentary soft drinks will be served in between the doubles and singles matches. Live scoring and video will be available at GoHuskies.com.
SCOUTING CALIFORNIA: California (11-7, 1-1) is ranked No. 51 in the latest ITA Tennis poll released on Tuesday. Pierre Mouillon is the Bears' top player and is ranked 27th nationally. Ken Nakahara is the hottest Cal player right now, embroiled in an 11-match win streak. The Bears opened the Pac-10 season up last week and split with the Arizona schools, losing 5-2 vs. Arizona State and winning 4-3 over Arizona. The Huskies trail in the all-time series against Cal, 8-27. The Bears won last season's match 4-3 in Ojai, Calif., while the Huskies last won 4-3 in 2005.
SCOUTING STANFORD: The Cardinal (4-11, 0-2) have struggled this season, but are still ranked 60th in the nation. Saturday's match against the Huskies will be the fourth in five days for the Cardinal. Freshman Richard Wire is Stanford's top player, ranked 74th in the nation. Wire has five wins over ranked opponents this season, including defending NCAA Singles Champion Ben Kohlloeffel of UCLA. Stanford holds the decided advantage over the Huskies historically with a 30-3 record all-time against the Huskies. The last time the Huskies and Cardinal played in Seattle on March 25, 2005, Washington escaped with the 5-2 win. Stanford won last seasons lone match up of the teams, 7-0 in Palo Alto.
