TEMPE, Ariz. - Washington senior Amber Prange equaled her career-best with a 69 in the final round of the PING/ASU Invitational, Sunday, leading the Huskies to a 14th place finish at the three-day tournament. UW shot 19-over 307 in the final round and 63-over 927 overall.
Prange, who has carded rounds of 69 three previous times in her UW career, moved up 10 spots in the individual standings on Sunday to finish 14th at 1-over 217. The 54-hole score also equals her career-low previously set at the 2003 Stanford Intercollegiate and the 2006 Wildcat Invitational.
Prange continued to improve her scores through the event, shooting 5-over 77 and 1-under 71 before a season-low 3-under 69 in today's final round. Prange tallied four birdies and one bogey on the day. The last time Prange shot a 69 was at last season's NCAA West Regional. She also carded back-to-back 69's at the 2003 Stanford Intercollegiate.
Host Arizona State ran away with its own tournament title, winning by 22 strokes. ASU set a tournament record with its 54-hole score of 13-under 851. Medalist Anna Nordqvist, a Sun Devil freshman, also set an individual tournament record with her 54-hole score of 10-under 206 (69-68-69). UCLA finished second (9-over 873) and Texas A&M ended third (10-over 874).
UW freshman Molly Aronsson shot 6-over 78 in the final round to finish the tournament tied for 68th at 20-over 236. Also scoring for the Huskies were redshirt-freshman Molly Boyle (t-70th, 21-over 237) and junior Kim Shin ( t-76th, 23-over 239). Freshman Christina Yoon tied for 84th at 27-over 243.
The Huskies will return to the links when they play host to the Pac-10 Championships at Broadmoor Golf Club in Seattle, April 23-25.
