Slovic Selected To Compete In NCAA Singles Championship

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Washington junior Alex Slovic earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championships, the NCAA announced Thursday. The individual portion of the NCAA Championships will be held May 24-29 following the team competition at Stanford's Taube Tennis Stadium in Palo Alto, Calif. The singles draw is a 64-player field.
Slovic will be making his third-straight appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship, advancing to the second round as a freshman and falling in the first round as a sophomore. Currently ranked 44th in the latest ITA rankings, Slovic will be vying for his first career All-America honors. He reached the quarterfinals of the Pac-10 singles tournament last week and has compiled an overall record of 26-13. Slovic has racked up nine wins against ranked opponents, including a win over fourth-ranked and previously unbeaten Conor Niland of California, April 26.
As a team, the Huskies (18-5, 5-2 Pac-10) open NCAA Tournament action facing Penn State at the campus of Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond, Va., Saturday, May 13, at 9 a.m. PT. Host VCU will take on Richmond Saturday prior to the Huskies' matchup at 6 a.m. PT. The winners will play in the second round on Sunday, May 14, at 10 a.m. PT for the right to advance to Stanford for the NCAA Round of 16.
