Husky Golfers Assigned to West Regional

May 9, 2005
Seattle - The 23rd-ranked Washington men's golf team was named the No. 10 seed in the West Regional today when the NCAA announced the fields for its three regional championships. Washington will compete with 27 other teams May 19-21 at the Stanford Golf Course for one of 10 spots to advance to the NCAA Championships. The Huskies are looking to advance out of regional play for the seventh consecutive year.
Washington received the Pac-10 Conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Regional after winning the league title last week in Walla Walla. It was the program's first Pac-10 title since 1988. Sophomore Erik Olson led Washington by winning medalist honors.
The top 10 teams from each regional will move on to the NCAA Championships that will take place June 1-4 at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md., near Baltimore. The Huskies are one of just five teams to reach the NCAAs the past six years.
The West Regional features the nation's top-ranked players in UNLV's Ryan Moore, the defending NCAA Champion, and New Mexico Spencer Levin. UNLV, ranked fourth, received the region's top seed while the Lobos, ranked fifth, are the number-two seed.
Making the trip from the east coast will be sixth-ranked Auburn and 20th-ranked South Carolina. Including the Huskies, there are six Pac-10 teams in the regional including Arizona State, UCLA, Arizona, USC, and Oregon.
