Huskies Own Eight Stroke Lead at California Collegiate

Stanford, CA - Led by three golfers who are packed between second and fourth place, the ninth-ranked Washington women's golf team leads the Peg Barnard California Collegiate by eight strokes after Saturday's first round of play. The 36-hole tournament concludes Sunday at the Stanford Golf Course.
Husky freshman Kim Shin shot 1-under 70 to lead the pack of Huskies near the top of the leaderboard. She trails Washington State's Kim Welch by four strokes. Shin's score was her best single-round performance this spring.
Junior All-American Paige Mackenzie is one stroke behind Shin in third place. Sophomore Courtney McCracken is one of three players tied for fourth at 1-over 72. Husky junior Sung Ea Lee is tied for 11th at 3-over 74 while sophomore Amber Prange is 30th at 79.
Washington is attempting to win its first tournament of the season after compiling four runner-up finishes this year. The Huskies were second at last year's California Collegiate.
