UW Gymnasts Finish Fifth at North Central Regional

April 3, 2004
Denver, Colo. -
Washington's attempt to advance to the NCAA Gymnastics Championships failed tonight, as the team had its worst scoring performance of the season in it's fifth place finish. Stanford and Iowa finished first and second to advance from the regional to the NCAA Championships at UCLA on April 15-17.
Seeded second at the Denver regional, Washington suffered numerous falls on bars and beam en route to the low team score of 194.225. The Huskies scored a 48.725 on vault, 48.250 on bars, 48.725 on beam, and a 48.525 on floor.
The bright spot in the meet came from junior Carly Dockendorf, who tied for the floor title (9.900) and tied for second on the bars (9.875). Dockendorf will be the lone Husky competitor at the NCAA Championships. She won the bars and floor last year at the Regional hosted by the UW. Dockendorf finished 12th in the all-around (38.825) after suffering a rare fall on the balance beam. Stanford's Lise Leveille took top honors in the all-around at 39.425 while teammate Lindsey Wing was second at 39.350.
Senior Emily Pritchard was the top all-around finisher for the Huskies, placing eighth with a 39.000. Pritchard also tied for fifth on the vault with a 9.850 and ninth on the bars with a 9.800. Molly Seaman, fresh off a Pac-10 beam title, finished fifth on the event with a 9.850. Kelly McDonald and Chelsea Bakken rounded out the Husky all-around effort. McDonald tied for 16th with a 38.475 and Bakken 21st with a 38.000.
The Huskies finished the season with a 13-14-1 record.
