Clem Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week Again

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington sophomore Zach Clem and USC's junior left-handed pitcher Michael Friedman, have been named Pac-10 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 23-29, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
It was the second such honor for the slugging Husky left fielder in the last three weeks.
Clem, from Burlington, Wash., went 8-for-17 (.471) in five games last week for the Huskies. In two games at Gonzaga and three at Arizona State, Clem hit three doubles and three home runs, scored seven runs and drove in 12 RBI to help Washington go 4-1 on the week. His slugging percentage was 1.176 and, with three hit by pitches and one walk, his on base percentage was .571. On Mar. 28 at Arizona State, after his seventh inning grand slam that gave UW a 6-5 lead, Clem hit a two run single to give Washington the 8-6 win.
Friedman, from Fremont, Calif., recorded a win and a save in three appearances this past week against Loyola Marymount and UCLA. For the week, he pitched 6.2 innings allowing no hits, no runs, one walk and seven strikeouts. In an 11-4 win against UCLA On Mar. 26, Friedman threw three perfect innings in relief to earn his first collegiate win, recording four strikeouts. USC went 3-1 on the week.
The Player of the Week honor is the second this season for Clem, second of his career and the 42nd all-time selection for Washington. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the first-ever for Friedman and the 53rd selection all-time for USC.
