Washington Men's Swimming Excels In First Day Of NCAA Championships

Auburn is in first place with 211 points, while Stanford is second (113) and Arizona and Texas are tied for third (110).
The 400-meter medley relay team of Derek Rose, Phil Davis, Justin Adrian and Luke Ekhoff earned All-America honors with a 14th place finish. Their time of 3:36.81 (3:14.26) was less then a second slower than the school record set by the four at the Pac-10 Championships.
Rose's leadoff time in the event was just two-hundreths of a second shy of his own school record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.17 (48.53).
Ekhoff also swam in the 200 individual medley today, posting a time of 2:06.08 (1:52.96) in the preliminaries.
The Huskies continue the championship meet tomorrow, swimming in five events. Adrian will swim in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle, Rose will swim in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke and Davis will swim in the 100 breaststroke. Adrian, Rose, Davis and Ekhoff will also swim in the 200 medley relay.
The 100 breaststroke should be the race of the night as Davis is seeded second in that event with a school record time of 53.04.
