TUCSON, Ariz. - Brent Lillibridge, a freshman last spring on the Washington baseball team has been named to the USA Baseball national team, the organization announced today after cuts were made.
Lillibridge, who played center field for the Huskies last season but will likely play shortstop next spring, led the UW with a .388 batting average in 2003. The first-team All-Pac-10 selection also set a Washington freshman record with 13 homers.
The USA National Team begins play July 2, when it opens a series of games vs. Japan in Durham, N.C. The team will also host Mexico in a series of games later in the summer before taking part in the Pan-American Games in the Dominican Republic.
Lillibridge, an Everett native and graduate of Jackson High, is the first UW player to make the national team since 1997, when Chris Magruder played.
