Huskies 15th After First Round at NCAA Golf Regional

Tempe, AZ - The 20th ranked Washington women's golf team is in 15th place after the first 18 holes of play at the NCAA West Regional at Arizona State's Karsten Golf Course. The Huskies shot 23-over 311 using a four-player lineup. Southern California shot 9-under 279 to jump out to a nine-stroke lead over second place Oklahoma State. The host Sun Devils are third at 2-over 290.
The top eight teams from the three regional tournaments advance to the NCAA Championships. The Huskies find themselves 12 strokes behind eighth-place Ohio State. The Buckeyes shot 11-over 299 during Thursday's first round.
UNLV's Sunny Oh and USC's Mikaela Parmlid lead the field after shooting 5-under 67 during the first round. USC's Tanya Dergal and Washington State's Kim Welch are tied for third at 4-under 68.
Washington was led on Thursday by Lindsay Morgan who shot 1-over 73 to finish 19th. Sung Ea Lee is 28th at 3-over 75, Louise Friberg is 37th at 4-over 76 and Michelle Grafos is 105th at 15-over 87 for the Huskies.
The second round of the tournament takes places Friday. The final 18 holes are scheduled for Saturday.
At the NCAA East Regional in Winston-Salem, N.C., top-ranked Duke leads the field after shooting 4-over 288. Florida State is second at 290. The Central Regional in Lincoln, Neb. was rained out. It will have 36 holes of play on Friday.
