May 22, 2003
West Lafayette, IN - Washington junior Lindsay Morgan had her best round of play at the NCAA Championships at Purdue's Kampen Golf Course, shooting 1-over 73 for a 54-hole total of 239. Morgan enters Friday's final round of play in 78th place.
The winds that had inflated the scoring during the first two rounds of the event finally subsided Thursday and for the first time during the tournament players managed to score below-par scores. USC's Mikaela Parmlid and Florida's Andrea Vander Lende took advantage of the better conditions to share the individual lead at 4-over 220. Parmlid shot 2-under 70 during the third round while Lende shot the event's best score at 3-under 69. Oklahoma State's Annie Thurman, who led after the second round, dropped back to third at 5-over 221. Pepperdine's Lindsey Wright is fourth at 224 while four players, including Washington State's Kim Welch, are tied for fifth at 9-over 225.
USC turned in the best team score of the tournament, shooting 5-over 293, to increase its lead to seven strokes in the team standings over Pepperdine.
