UW Golfers Move Up to Seventh at NCAA Regional

Stanford, CA - The Washington women's golf team moved up two positions to a tie for seventh after the second round of the NCAA West Regional at the Stanford Golf Course. The Huskies are competing for one of eight spots to the NCAA Championship that takes place at Washington National Golf Course May 21-24. The final round of the 54-hole tournament takes place Saturday.
Washington shot 302 on Friday, the fourth best score of the day, to tie Arizona State for seventh at 612. Pepperdine, at 592, holds a three-stroke lead over UCLA and California in the race for the team championship. Arizona, the Pac-10 Champion, is fourth at 599.
The Huskies and Sun Devils are just three strokes behind sixth-place New Mexico and five shots behind fifth-place Stanford. USC, at 614, occupies ninth place.
Washington was led on Friday by junior Louis Friberg's 73. She stands 12th overall at 5-over 149. Arizona's Lorena Ochoa, the nation's top-ranked player, shot 2-under 70 to grab a three-stroke lead for medalist honors at 140. She is trailed by Pepperdine's Katherine Hull at 143. A trio of players, including Arizona State's Jimin Kang, the Pac-10 champion, in third place at 144.
Lindsay Morgan shot 76 for the Huskies on Friday to stand 23rd overall at 152. Paige Mackenzie shot 77 to move to 29th at 153 and Michelle Grafos helped the Huskies scoring with a 76 to move to 62nd at 159. Washington All-American Kelli Kamimura struggled with her second straight 82 to stand 80th overall at 164.
At the NCAA East Regional, Duke leads the field at 571 followed by Florida at 576. Kent State and Ohio State are tied for first at 621 in the Central Regional.
