UW Women's Golfers Seeded Fifth at NCAA West Regional

Seattle - The 16th-ranked Washington women's golf team is seeded fifth in the 21-team field at the NCAA West Regional Championship to be held May 9-11 at the Stanford Golf Course. The top eight teams from three regional sites will advance to the 2002 NCAA Championships May 21-24 at Washington National Golf Club in Auburn.
The Huskies are one of eight teams from the Pac-10 Conference competing at the NCAA West Regional. Last week Washington tied for fifth at the Pac-10 Championships, one stroke out of third place. Arizona, winners of the last three Pac-10 titles, is the No. 1 seeded team in the West Region. Arizona State is second, followed by UCLA and California. Southern California is seeded sixth, Stanford is eighth and Washington State is 18th.
Top-ranked Auburn and second-ranked Duke headline the field at the East Regional at LSU's University Club, while Oklahoma State is the top seed at the Central Regional held at Michigan State's Forest Akers Golf Course.
In addition to 24 teams advancing to the NCAA Championships, the top two finishers from for each regional, not on a qualifying team, will compete at the NCAAs in the individual competition.
West Regional
The West regional will be played May 9-11 at Stanford Golf Course, Stanford, California, hosted by Stanford University. Conference automatic qualifiers are indicated in parenthesis next to the institution.
