Husky Golfers Finish Fifth at Pac-10s

Walla Walla, WA - The Washington women's golf team turned in a final round score of 297 to finish tied for fifth place with a 54-hole total of 909 at the Pac-10 Championships at Walla Walla Country Club. The Huskies moved up two spots after starting the day in seventh place and finished just one stroke behind third place finishers Arizona State and California.
Arizona won its third consecutive Pac-10 title by eight strokes at 891. The Wildcats shot 294 on Wednesday to pull away from second place UCLA. The Bruins finished at 899.
Arizona State sophomore Jimin Kang, a native of Edmonds, won the individual title by upsetting top-ranked Lorena Ochoa of Arizona. Kang birdied the the 16th and 18th holes to finish at 2-under 70 for the day and at even-par 216 overall. Ochoa bogeyed the 17th hole, costing her a chance for medalist honors, finishing at 217. USC's Mikaela Parmlid was in contention for the individual title before finishing with four bogies over the final five holes. She finished at 218.
Washington's Lindsay Morgan and Louise Friberg placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the final individual standings. It marks the first time two Huskies have recorded top-10 finishes in the same season at the Pac-10 Championships. Morgan carded a 74 on Wednesday to finish at 6-over 222. Friberg shot 2-under 70 to finish at 7-over 223. Friberg's final round score tied as the best 18-hole total during the tournament.
The Huskies' Kelli Kamimura was 21st overall at 232. Michelle Grafos was 32nd at 235, Paige Mackenzie was 41st at 239 and Bianca Clark, playing as a non-scoring player, was 49th at 244.
Washington's next tournament will be May 9-11 at a NCAA Regional Championship.
