Huskies Seventh After First Round at Pac-10s

Walla Walla, WA - The Washington women's golf team got off to a poor start at the Pac-10 Championships, shooting 309 to place seventh after the first 18 holes of play. The 16th-ranked Huskies are 16 strokes behind tournament leader Arizona. At 293, the Wildcats hold a four-shot advantage over second-place USC.
Louise Friberg led UW's scoring with a 74 to stand in ninth place in the individual standings. UCLA's Yvonne Choe and USC's Mikaela Parmlid share the tournament lead at 1-under 71. Arizona State's Jimin Kang and Arizona's Lorena Ochoa, the nation's top-ranked collegiate golfer, are tied for third at 72.
Washington's team score of 309 was its third-highest 18-hole score in 25 rounds of play this season. The Huskies entered the tournament seeded fourth in the 10-team field.
Washington's Lindsay Morgan is 16th overall at 76 while Michelle Grafos shot 79 to stand 32nd. Husky All-American Kelli Kamimura carded an 80 to tie for 36th while Paige Mackenzie was 48th at 84. Bianca Clark, competing as non-scoring player, was 57th at 86.
The second round of the tournament will be held Tuesday with the final 18 holes scheduled for Wednesday.
