Husky Golfers Win Barnard Collegiate

Stanford, CA - The 19th-ranked Washington women's golf team won its second tournament in three weeks by taking first place at the Peg Barnard Collegiate at the Stanford Golf Course. On Sunday the Huskies carded a 296, the tournament's best 18-hole score, and won by six strokes at 17-over 593. California, ranked 18th, was second at 599 followed by 14th-ranked USC (600), 29th-ranked Stanford (607) and 8th-ranked Arizona State.
The Huskies we led by a trio of golfers who placed in the top four overall. Sophomore Lindsay Morgan shot even-par 72 on Sunday to finish third at 2-over 146. Junior Louise Friberg had a 73 and freshman Paige Mackenzie shot 74 on Sunday to tie for fourth at 147. Washington All-American Kelli Kamimura was 21st at 9-over 153. Michelle Grafos was 51st at 160.
Morgan is proving to be the catalyst for UW victories this season. She led the Huskies scoring with a second-place finish at Oregon's Duck Invitational, which the Huskies won on March 29.
USC's Mikaela Parmlid took top individual honors at the Barnard, carding a one-under par 143 for the tournament. Parmlid shot the low-round of the tourney Sunday with a two-under par 70. California's Sara Huarte shot the only other under par round at the Peg Barnard Collegiate - a one-under par 71. Huarte finished tied for fourth individually at three-over par 147.
The Washington golf team is next in action at the 2002 Pacific-10 Women's Golf Championships, April 23-25, in Walla Walla, Washington. Washington State is hosting the championships.
