Eight UW Swimmers Earn Pac-10 All-Academic Honors

SEATTLE - A total of 10 Washington student-athletes received Pac-10 All-Academic accolades for the 2000-2001 winter sports of gymnastics and men's and women's swimming and diving.
Four Huskies earned first-team honors, two were named second team and four received honorable mention accolades.
The men's swimming team, which finished sixth at the Pac-10 championships, boasted five honorees including four first-teamers. Senior Francis Tam (Santa Clara, Calif.), juniors David Moilanen (Renton, Wash.) and Ryan Oleson (McMinnville, Ore.) and sophomore Tim Collins (Vancouver, Wash.) all received first-team honors. Junior Mark Pearson (Federal Way, Wash.) was named to the Pac-10 second team for men's swimming.
The women's swimming team, which placed eighth at the Pac-10 swimming and diving championships, earned three all-academic nods, including second-team nominee sophomore Evelyn Hingsbergen (Elk Grove, Calif.). Sophomore Julie Massey (Tacoma, Wash.) and senior Katherine Weatherhead (Santa Barbara, Calif.) received honorable mention accolades.
The Husky gymnastics team, which advanced to the NCAA South Central Regional Championship, had two athletes featured on the all-academic teams for the sport. Junior Sidney Field (Bothell, Wash.) and senior Jessica Schedler (LaCrosse, Wisc.) both garnered honorable mention accolades.
