May 8, 2000
SEATTLE - University of Washington senior Ed Erickson has been named the Pac-10 Conference Baseball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
In two wins over Washington State last week, Erickson, a first baseman from Yakima's Eisenhower High School, batted .750 (6-for-8), going 3-for-4 in both games. He also homered in both games, had a double, five runs, five RBI and three stolen bases.
Erickson, the only senior on the UW roster, is the Huskies' all-time home runs leader with 41. Entering Sunday's game, when he stole three bases, he had stolen only four in his entire career. For the weekend, Erickson also drew two walks, was hit by a pitch and did not strike out.
Oregon State pitcher Scott Nicholson, who led the Beavers to a win over No. 2 Stanford on Saturday, was named the pitcher of the week.
