Thiel Named Freshman All-America

Jefferson Thiel, the starting catcher for the Washington baseball team, has been named to the USA Today Baseball Weekly Freshman All-America team, which was unvieled in today's issue of the magazine.
Thiel, from Bothell, Wash. (Juanita High), batted .265 with nine doubles, five home runs and 21 runs batted in during his freshman campaign for the Huskies. He made a name for himself with his defensive abilities and his durability. Despite his youth, Thiel started 44 of the Huskies' 56 games and 23 of 24 Pac-10 games.
Thiel is the only Pacific-10 Conference player to make USA Today's squad. Here's the complete list:
