Women's Tennis Downs Washington State, 5-4

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington women's tennis team, ranked 25th in the nation, won four of six singles matches and one doubles match to unranked Washington State, 5-4, on Saturday at the Stadium Way Tennis Center. Washington's overall record improves to 12-9 and 4-5 in Pac-10 competition. The Huskies will head to the Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, Calif., Apr. 27-30.
In singles competition, playing in the No. 1 slot, top ranked junior Kristina Kraszewski downed Patrycia Gajdzik, 6-2, 6-2, while in the No. 2 slot, sophomore Ilona Kordonskaya stopped Melissa Pine, 6-1, 6-4. In the third slot, freshman Darija Klaic defeated Ana Maria Moura, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, while in the No. 4 position, freshman Colleen Gray lost to Tamara Flipovic, 6-2, 6-2. Senior Zuzana Stunova lost in the fifth position to Moniek van de Ven, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, while senior Peggy Wu downed Kathleen Pienaar, 7-6, 6-3, in the sixth position.
In the top position of doubles competition, Kristina Kraszewski and Darija Klaic downed Melissa Pine and Tamara Flipovic, 8-4. Ilona Kordonskaya and Zuzana Stunova lost to Patrycia and Ana Maria Moura in the second position, 8-2, while Kathleen Pienaar and Moniek van de Ven defeated Colleen Gray and senior Jenny Svanfeldt, 8-4, in the third slot.
