Women's Golfer Improve Standing at Regional

HOUSTON - Washington's women's golf team improved to 14th place after carding 310 Friday in the second round of the NCAA West Regional. The Huskies accumulated a 36-hole tally of 625 at Pine Forest Country Club, 11 stokes back of 11th place Texas which sits in the final NCAA Championships qualifying spot with one round left to play in the regional.
Elisha Au and Kelli Kamimura each carded 76 Friday to assist the Huskies in shaving five strokes from their first round total. Au now has leads the Huskies with a 36-hole score of 154, one stroke better than Kamimura who is tied for 43rd with a 155. Jennifer Stapleton carded 79, finishing tied for 54th with 157 while Paola Bellotti registered UW's final scoring tally with a 79 to give her 161 for the tournament. The Huskies started the day in 15th-place of the 20-team team tournament.
Arizona's Jenna Daniels carded a 5-under-par 67 to lift the No. 2-ranked Wildcats in the lead heading into Saturday's final round. The Wildcats' 588 leads second place Stanford by three strokes, and third place USC by five. Arizona State completes the Pac-10's sweep of the top four spots with a 594.
Washington has 18-holes to make up the 11 stroke difference separating it from 11th place if it is to qualify for its third-straight NCAA Championship appearance. Washington tees-off tomorrow's final round at 6:06 a.m. PDT at Pine Forest Country Club.
