Women's Golf in 17th Place at NCAA Championships

MADISON, Wis. -- The Washington women's golf team carded a 303 Wednesday in the first round of the NCAA Championships. The Huskies were led by the stellar play of freshman Elisha Au who carded a 1-under par 71 for the first 18-holes of the 72-hole tournament held at the 6,033-yard University Ridge Golf Course.
The Huskies are in 17th place, two storkes behind the Texas, Tulsa, and New Meixico State, which are tied for 14th. Washington leads Pac-10 rival Stanford by a stroke.
After an even par front-nine, Au posted 35 on the back to place her in a 10-way tie for 12th. Teammate Andrea Cordova started out hot for the Huskies, finishing the front with a 2-under 34 before a 2-over 38 after the turn. She is tied for 22nd individually. Junior Paola Bellotti shot 78 to start Thursday's second round tied for 76th.
Arizona State took a commanding lead in the tournament posting an 11-under 277 seven strokes better than second place Indiana. The Sun Devils were led by the 7-under par 65 of freshman Grace Park, who is tied with Duke's Jenny Chuasirporn for the individual lead.
The tournament continues tomorrow with second of four rounds at Unviersity Ridge Golf Course. Action can be seen live on ESPN-2 starting at noon (PST).
