Issa and Jarzynka Named 1st Team All-Pac-10

November 30, 1998
Walnut Creek, CA - Washington placed two players on the first team All-Pacific-10 Conference football team, including junior defensive lineman Jabari Issa and junior all-purpose player Joe Jarzynka. The Huskies had two players named as second-team All-Pac-10 selections, junior defensive lineman Mac Tuiaea and senior offensive guard Tony Coats. Coats was a second-team All-Pac-10 selection last season. The All-Pac-10 team is voted on by the league's coaches.
Issa was one of three Husky players to record eight sacks this year while helping Washington to lead the nation in that category with 51 total sacks. A native of Foster City, Calif., Issa finished the season with 41 tackles, including 12 tackles for loss. Jarzynka proved to be the most versatile player in the Pac-10 in 1998. In addition to serving as a backup wide receiver, Jarzynka also handled the place kicking duties for the Huskies and led the Pac-10 with 45 punt returns (8.9 average) and was second on the UW team with 16 kickoff returns (20.6 average).
Washington's two first-team selections were the fewest since Bern Brostek was the only Husky named to the all-conference squad in 1989. The last time Washington did not have an offensive player earn first-team honors was in 1988 when defensive tackle Dennis Brown was the squad's lone representative.
A total of seven Washington players received honorable mention recognition including: Nigel Burton, ROV, Sr.; Brock Huard, QB, Jr.; Todd Johnson, OLB, Sr.; Dane Looker, WR, Jr.; Josh Smith, DE, Sr.; Lester Towns, ILB, Jr. and Chad Ward, OG, So.
