No. 15 Men's Tennis Shut Out by No. 12 Arizona State

Tempe, AZ -- Washington's 15th-ranked men's tennis team, winner of eight of its last nine, was shut out today by 12th-ranked Arizona State 7-0 at Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz. The Sun Devils (11-4, 3-1 Pac-10) swept all six singles matches and three doubles matches. Sophomore Marius Lunde won the lone set on the day for the Huskies (14-6, 1-2). Washington has not defeated Arizona State in the 11 all-time matches dating back to 1979.
Fourth-ranked Robert Kendrick and 43rd-ranked Eric Drew were both upset in straight sets in their No. 2 and No. 1 singles matches, respectively. Kendrick lost to unranked Jeff Williams 7-5, 6-4 and Drew lost to No. 53 Gustavo Marcaccio 6-2, 6-4. Drew-Kendrick also team up to form the nation's 14th-ranked doubles team but lost to Arizona State's 27th-ranked duo of Ed Carter-Jeff Williams 9-8 in No. 1 doubles play.
Washington resumes Pac-10 play tomorrow at noon facing Arizona in Tucson, Ariz.
