Rashell Leads Washington with Ace

Corvallis, OR - University of Washington senior Rob Rashell hit his third career hole-in-one in the final round of the Nike Northwest Classic leading Washington's men's golf team to a second place finish.
Rashell, who entered Tuesday's third round at 2-under, was at even-par for the round when he stepped up to the 177-yard seventh hole and hit a six-iron to the front of the green where it rolled into the cup.
"I had a couple of bogies going before the seventh, so I started aiming at the pin on everything because we needed birdies," Rashell said after his round on Tuesday. "I hit a low draw in front of the hole and it rolled into the hole like a putt. I didn't see it go in but my parents were standing in back of the green and started jumping up and down and the my dad gave the hole-in-one signal."
The senior from Lake Stevens, Wash., shot a season-low round of 68 finishing with a 6-under par 210 for the 54-hole tournament. It was the first hole-in-one for Rashell in a collegiate tournament. In the playoff, Rashell hole a 25-foot putt on the 16th hole at Trysting Tree to force UCLA to play the hole under par the the tournament victory.Rashell placed second overall behind UCLA's Jason Schlagenhauf who finished at minus-8 for the tournament.
The Huskies finished the tournament tied for first with UCLA and Oregon at 89-under par for the tournement. UCLA shot 1-under on the playoff hole, to claim the tournament championship.
Gordy Scutt, who led Washington after two rounds, fired up an even par 72 to finish at 4-under, tied for sixth. Scott Kral, who finished second overall at last year's Northwest Classic, shot even par on the way to a tie for 17th. Walk-on Chris Wandell finished tied for 33rd and Robb Bergeson finished in 61st.
Rashell's ace marks the second hole-in-one for UW golfers the fall. Kelli Kamimura, a freshman on the women's team, had a hole-in-one in her Husky debut on Sept. 25. The freshman from Sedro Wolley hole a five iron on the 150-yard 17th at the University of New Mexicos's Championship Couse.
