Men's Tennis Earns NCAA Regional Berth

For the fifth consecutive year, Washingtons mens tennis team (16-8) will compete in NCAA regionals. This years tournament field expanded to 64 teams with 16 regional sites. Each regional champion will advance to Athens, Ga. for the NCAA championship, May 22-25.
The 24th-ranked Huskies travel to Athens, Ga. for their regional hosted by the University of Georgia. The Huskies face 38th-ranked Minnesota (12-10) in the first-round, May 15, and either fifth-ranked Georgia or 55th-ranked Georgia State May 16 in the second-round.
"The new bracket format this year has everyone excited about the tournament," says fifth-year head coach Matt Anger. "I did not expect us to go to Georgia but they tried to combine teams geographically with the regional. I dont mind. I am excited. Minnesota is a good team. They were up here for our fall tournament so we know their team and how good they are. From a spectator point of view, it is going to be an excited regional. Now that we know the draw, our guys are eager and excited about the matches."
Washington is 2-1 all-time against Minnesota and 0-1 facing Georgia. Washington has never met Georgia State. The Huskies lost to the Bulldogs this year, 5-2, in the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championship held in the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
