Washington Finishes Ninth in Spring Opener

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Washington women's golf team carded a 54-hole team total of 977 to finish ninth at the GTE "Mo"morial Invitational. It was Washington's first competition since October. Host school Texas A&M won the tournament held at Pebble Creek Country Club in College Station, TX, by shooting a tournament record of 898.
The Huskies were led by the 22nd place finish of junior Mendy Cooper, who carded a team-best 76 during Tuesday's third round to record a tournament total of 237. Cooper finished seven strokes better than teammate Kim Yabe, who had carded a pair of 79s before an 86 in the final round.
Washington competes in the San Jose State Spartan Invitational Mar. 8-10.
