Women's Golfers 15th at West Regional

HOUSTON - The Washington women's golf team posted a 315 in the first round of the NCAA West Regional Thursday to finish the day in 15th at Pine Forest Country Club in Houston. Stanford leads the tournament after a 4-over total of 292.
Sophomore Elisha Au and senior Jennifer Stapleton led the Huskies' first-round effort and are tied for 42nd, each carding a 6-over 78 on the 6,119-yard, par-72 layout. All-Pac-10 freshman Kelli Kamimura finished the day tied for 56th after a 7-over 79. Andrea Cordova recorded UW's final tally with an 80, tied for 65th.
Arizona's Jenna Daniels lead the 54-hole tournament with a 2-under 70 to grab a one stroke lead over Sasha Medina (New Mexico St.), Angie Yoon (Nevada) and Nicole Dalkas (USC).
Arizona State and USC are seven strokes back of first place Stanford with 299, followed by Arizona and New Mexico State which are tied for fourth. Oregon is sixth with 302. Washington is five strokes behind 10th-place Pepperdine at the 20-team tournament where the top-10 advance to the NCAA Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Washington has advanced to the national championships in the three of the past four seasons.
Action continues with the second of three rounds tomorrow at Pine Forest Country Club.
