Women's Tennis Falls 5-4 to Arizona

SEATTLE, Wash.--The 22nd-ranked Washington women's tennis team dropped its fourth straight match to 45th-ranked Arizona (7-10), Sunday at the UW upper campus courts. This loss drops the Huskies down to 9-7 (0-4 in the Pac-10) overall.
In singles action, Washington was kept alive by two victories captured by Kristina Kraszewski and Jennifer Svanfeldt at the No.1 and No.6 singles slots. Kraszewski, ranked 13th in the nation, defeated Arizona freshman Lindsay Blau in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in No.1 singles. This win improves Kraszewskis overall record to 20-8. At the No.6 postion, Svanfeldt beat Arizona's Carly Stringer 4-6, 7-6, 6-1to improve her record to 19-7.
In doubles action, the Wildcats clinched the team win when the No.1 team of Blau and Monique Allegre defeated the 22nd-ranked Husky duo of Kraszewski and Ilona Kordonskaya 8-5. This loss drops Kraszewski and Kordonskayas record to 13-9. In the other two doubles matches, the Huskies emerged victorious. The Husky tandem of Zuzana Stunova and Peggy Wu came from behind to beat Arizonas Michelle Gough and Vanessa Abel 9-7 in No.2 doubles. This win improves their record to 14-10. In No.3 doubles, Washingtons Jennifer Svanfeldt and Zeta Wagner captured an 8-5 win over Stringer and Laresa Marino to improve their record to 17-7.
Next week the Huskies travel to Eugene to face three Pac-10 foes. On Wednesday, Apr. 7, the Huskies meet Oregon at 1:30 pm, then they face UCLA on Friday, Apr.9, at 1:30 pm and USC on Saturday, Apr. 10, at noon.
