Drew Ousted in Semifinal of NCAA Singles Play

Athens, GA - Washington mens tennis player, senior Eric Drews, stellar Husky career came to an end in the semifinal round of the NCAA singles championship held in Athens, Ga. early this morning. The 58th-ranked Drew (23-8) fell to second-seeded and second-ranked Jeff Morrison (42-7) of Florida 6-2, 6-3. He was the only unseeded player in the semifinals and Morrison has not dropped a set all tournament.
Drews showing in the championship was the furthest a Husky has advanced since Bill Quillian reached the NCAA finals in 1955. Drew closes out his Husky career as the only Husky to be ranked throughout his four-year career. He also holds the top-spot as Washingtons career doubles wins leader with 72 doubles wins. He stands in second-place on Washingtons career singles wins list with 86 career singles wins. Drew and Robert Kendrick were also named All-America, Washingtons first tennis All-Americans since Chet Crile in 1993.
In the other semifinal, top-seeded and top-ranked James Blake of Harvard defeated Stanfords fourth-ranked Ryan Wolters, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1. The final is set for tomorrow at 10 a.m. PDT.
