No. 18 Huskies Hosts Gonzaga

THIS WEEK: The 18th-ranked Washington men's tennis team returns to action Wednesday, February 10 hosting Gonzaga at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. Matches begin at 4 p.m.
TOUGH SOPHOMORES: The 18th-ranked Huskies are led by a pack of sophomores. Robert Kendrick, Andy Posavac, Jeremy Berman and Marius Lunde compiled a 26-11 record during the fall season. The four carry a 15-4 mark in dual-match play this season. Kendrick is ranked eighth in the nation with a 15-3 record and carries a 4-0 record in No. 1 singles. Posavac is second on the team with 12 victories and carries a No. 96 ranking. Berman has won six out of his last seven matches and carries a 10-3 record.
KING KENDRICK: Sophomore Robert Kendrick continued his stellar play this past weekend at the 22nd Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship in Dallas, Texas. Kendrick was the first Husky to represent Washington in the Rolex National Intercollegiates. He defeated four ranked opponents, ranked No. 4, 10, 15 and 53, in the first four rounds for a chance to meet the top-ranked player in the nation, Harvard's James Blake. Kendrick fell to Blake 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in the finals to snap his 10-match winning streak. Kendrick has defeated nine of 11 ranked opponents this year and is ranked eighth in the country.
DREW UP THE CHARTS: With five victories in singles play this season, senior Eric Drew moved into a tie for fifth-place on Washington's career singles wins list with 68 career wins. Drew has also tallied four doubles wins this year to place him in sixth-place on Washington's career doubles wins list. He has 53 career doubles victories.
SERIES VS. GONZAGA: Washington defeated Gonzaga 7-0 in the first meeting between the two schools last year at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
LAST TIME OUT: Washington nearly snapped No. 1 Stanford's 39-match winning streak at the Nordstrom Tennis Center as the Huskies fell 4-3, Jan. 30. The Huskies won the doubles point but could not capitalize on winning the first set in three singles matches. Washington bounced back to defeat California the next day 6-1. Washington won the doubles point and claimed five of six singles matches.
PAC-10 TOUGHNESS: All eight Pac-10 schools that sponsor men's tennis are ranked in the ITA's top-75 poll. Rankings are as follows: 1. Stanford; t5. UCLA; 15. USC; 17. Arizona State; 18. Washington; 25. California; t45. Arizona; 62. Oregon.
UW HOSTS TOP TOURNAMENT: Washington will host the 1999 National Men's Team Indoor Championships Feb. 18-21. Matches will be held in the Nordstrom Tennis Center and the Seattle Tennis Club. The Indoor Championships feature 16 of the top men's tennis programs in the nation. A Pac-10 school has won the tournament every year since 1987. Defending champion Stanford returns to defend its title and Washington makes it first ever appearance.
UPCOMING ACTION: Washington tunes up for the USTA/ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship hosting fifth-ranked UCLA Tuesday, February 16 at 4 p.m. in the Nordstrom Tennis Center. The Indoor Championship begins Thursday, February 18 at 8 a.m.
