Kamimura Wins, UW Takes Second

VALLEJO, Calif. - Washington freshman Kelli Kamimura fired a 142 to win the Bay Area Classic and help No. 13 Washington to a second place finish. The Huskies fired 300 in the final round and 592 for the 36-hole competition at Blue Springs Country Club.
Kamimura, the sixth-ranked player nationally, needed a two-hole playoff to overcome Pepperdine's Tammy Durdin. Earlier this season at the Northwest Intercollegiate, Durdin beat Kamimura in a one-hole playoff. It was the first collegiate win for the freshman from Sedro Woolley, Wash.
Players from Washington and Pepperdine swept the top-5 spots, with UW senior Paola Bellotti in fifth. Bellotti fired an 1-over-par 72 to finish plus-5 for the the tournament. Andrea Cordova finished with 147, good enough for a share of eighth place. Jennifer Stapleton and Elisha Au each completed the tournament with 154, in 12th place.
Pepperdine won the tournament with a record score of 587, five strokes ahead of Washington. Third place San Diego State was 25 strokes back of the Huskies.
The Huskies will take a break for finals before travelling to Greensboro, NC, for the Bryan Cup Invitational, Mar. 26-28.
