Men's Tennis Falls to Georgia

SEATTLE, WA - Washington's 18th-ranked men's tennis team could not hold off Georgia's comeback and fell to the Bulldogs 5-2 in third-day competition of the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championship at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. Washington drops to 1-2 for the weekend and 6-4 on the season. The Huskies defeated No. 3 Mississippi State on Thursday and fell to No. 5 UCLA yesterday. Georgia improves to 4-1 on the season.
Washington claimed the doubles point early and won three first-sets in singles play to begin the night. However, the Bulldogs were led by their two highly ranked singles players, No. 12 Hisham Hemeda and No. 15 Chad Carlson. Sophomore Jeremy Berman was the lone Husky to win his match . Berman downed Travis Parrot to improve his record to 13-4.
Hemeda defeated senior Eric Drew 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 in No. 1 singles play and Carlson upset third-ranked Robert Kendrick 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 in the No. 2 slot. Drew's record stands at 8-2 and Kendrick is 18-4.
Washington returns to action Friday, Feb. 26 traveling to Eugene, Ore. to take on Cal Poly SLO and Oregon, Feb. 27.
