Huskies Drop Battle To Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 22 Washington women's tennis battled with the fifth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes but fell 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.

UW concludes the regular season with an 18-4 overall record and a 9-4 mark in Big Ten action.

Ohio State opened the match with taking the doubles point with wins on Courts 1 and 3, 6-3 and 6-2, respectively. Erika Matsuda and Karolina Kozakova were leading the 24th-ranked doubles team, 5-4, prior to conclusion of doubles.

Reece Carter had her highest career ranked victory with a straight set win over fourth-ranked Luciana Perry, 6-4, 6-4. Carter went 17-1 in singles this season at the No. 2 spot during the regular season. She matches her career-best singles dual win total of 17 which she had during her freshman season at Arizona.

Jermine Sherif followed it up with a ranked win of her own over the 100th-ranked player, 6-4, 6-4. Sherif set a new career-high with her 16th singles win.

The Buckeyes secured the win with victories on Courts 1, 3 and 4 to close out the match.

The Huskies will await the remaining matches today to determine their seeding for the Big Ten Tournament which begins on April 23 in Columbus.
