SEATTLE – Washington women's tennis head coach Robin Stephenson has announced the hiring of Jessie Aney as the new assistant coach.
"I could not be more thrilled to welcome Jessie to our Husky family," Stephenson said. "I can't wait to see her impact on the program and can't wait to learn from her and collaborate together. I was immediately impressed by her energy and passion for the sport and her desire to impact others.
Aney makes her way to Montlake from the professional ranks and previously serving as a volunteer assistant at Charlotte.
"I'm so grateful for this opportunity to join Robin in coaching the Husky women's tennis team," Aney said. "Robin has cultivated a tight-knit team that values the student-athletes as people first while working hard toward developing a top team in the nation on the court."
In her time as a professional, Aney reached a No. 104 doubles ranking and a No. 304 singles ranking. She has won three singles and 22 doubles titles on the ITF Tour. Aney's most recent doubles titles came at the 2025 ITF Bengaluru Open and the 2025 ITF Chihuahua with partner Jessicia Failla.
"She is a proven winner at every stop and most importantly she is a high character person and extremely professional," Stephenson added. "She has national championship level experience from her time as a college player at UNC and has incredible experience on the professional tour that will translate both in coaching our athletes, recruiting the next Huskies and helping us achieve our goals of winning championships."
While at Charlotte, Aney helped the team reach a record-high ranking of No. 30 and reaching the first round of the NCAA Championship in 2023. The season, the 49ers had the second-most wins in program history (22) on their way to their first appearance in the Championship.
During her time as a student-athlete at North Carolina, Aney helped the team to the 2018 Team National Indoor title and was the 2016 Riviera/ITA All-American Doubles Champion. She was a three-time All-American doubles player (one of two student-athletes in program history to earn that many honors) and All-ACC selection while guiding the Tar Heels to four ACC Championships and a No. 1 ITA team ranking. Aney is tied for third in program history with 127 career singles victories and posted an overall doubles record of 112-33.
"Jessie is very talented on the court but an even better person and always had a tremendous attitude off the court," North Carolina head coach Brian Kalbas said. "She helped us clinch a national championship even while injured which shows what kind of a person she is. She will be a big asset to the Washington program."
In addition to her time as a tennis student-athlete, Aney also competed on the North Carolina men's club ice hockey team and while at UConn competed on NCAA ice hockey team.
Aney earned her bachelor's in business administration with a finance concentration from UNC and a master's degree in philosophy from UConn.
"This is a really special program," Aney added. "I couldn't be more excited to learn from this group and help them build toward their goals on and off the tennis court."
"Jessie has a contagious energy and work ethic and is the perfect fit in college coaching and will no doubt be one of the rising stars in our industry in the years ahead," Stephenson added. "We are grateful and fortunate to have her in Seattle and thrilled that she chose to be a Dawg."
