CHARLESTON, Ill. – Washington softball started its road trip with a 3-2 eight inning win at Eastern Illinois on Thursday afternoon at Williams Field. The Huskies improve to 25-9 on the season.
It is the first road extra inning victory for the Dawgs since April 23, 2022 at No. 19 Oregon.
Stevie Hansen got the start in the circle going 3.1 innings. Sophia Ramuno came on in relief going 2.1 scoreless frames with one hit allowed and a strikeout. Morgan Reimer (11-4) closed out the game to pick up her 11th win of the season.
Sophomore Tia Durst led the Husky offense with a 2-for-2 day while also drawing a pair of walks. Giselle Alvarez and Alycia Flores had two hits each.
Washington got on the board in the top of the second as Durst hit a two-out infield single and stole second to move into scoring position. Riley Peschek drove her in for the 1-0 advantage.
Eastern Illinois brought in a pair of runs on a two-run double by Alisha Frederick in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead.
UW tied the game in the sixth with a one-out triple by Flores, the third of her career and first as a Husky. Ava Carroll brought her in on a sacrifice fly to left.
Back-to-back knocks by Alvarez and Flores put runners on the corners to start the eighth inning. A hit-by-pitch to Sophi Mazzola loaded the bases for Durst to draw a walk to re-take the lead.
With a one-run lead going to the bottom of the eighth, Reimer was able to get three groundouts to secure the road win.
