CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Washington softball dropped its game to Cal, 6-4, on Friday night at Big League Dreams. The Huskies move to 6-7 on the season.
California jumped out to an early lead in the first with four unearned runs. The Golden Bears added a run in the fourth to go up 5-0.
With two on and two outs in the fifth, Sophi Mazzola got the Huskies on the board with her second home run of the season.
Cal responded with a run in the top of the fourth and one in the sixth.
Ava Carroll came on to pinch hit with one out in the seventh. She hit the ball to the left field fence for a triple. Mazzola drove her in to cut the lead down to two. The comeback bid came up just short as a pop-up ended the game.
Mazzola is the first Husky this season with four RBI in a game. She is the first to do so since Rylee Holtorf and Brooke Nelson against Boise State on April 10, 2023.
Washington is back in action for day three of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Saturday night against UC Santa Barbara. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The game will be streamed through FloCollege with live stats available at HuskyStats.com.
