Martin & Donovan Win Pairs At USRowing Fall Speed Order
November 17, 2025 | Men's Rowing
Current and former UW rowers took the top honors in the men's pair this past Saturday at the USRowing 2025 Fall Speed Order regatta in West Windsor, N.J.
Lyle Donovan and Ryan Martin, who are both currently in their senior year at UW, won the men's pair A final, with Husky alumni Samuel Halbert '20 and Blake Vogel '25 taking second. UW alumnus Evan Olson '19 and USTC-Sarasota pair partner finished third.
Donovan and Martin finished the race in 6:42.41, 1.8 seconds ahead of Halbert and Vogel (6:44.21). Olson's pair was another 5.7 seconds back in third, well ahead of the fourth-place finisher.
The Fall Speed Order featured 40 women's single sculls, 47 men's single sculls, 10 men's pairs, seven women's pairs, and eight Para entries. Due to high winds, the regatta was pared down to a single day, with only time trials and finals.
Martin was the stroke of the Huskies' varsity eight crew that won the national championship at IRAs last spring, while Donovan, a former walk-on, was in the second varsity eight that earned the gold medal in its IRA grand final.
Halbert and Vogel have both earned medals at World Rowing Under 23 Championships, while Olson won a bronze medal in the 2024 Olympic Games.
