Green, Ligons Take Big Ten Track Honors
January 22, 2025 | Track & Field
SEATTLE – A couple School Records leads to a couple Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week awards as Washington's Nathan Green and Bodi Ligons earned the honors today. Green was named men's co-Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, and Ligons was recognized as the Big Ten Men's Freshman of the Week.
Green knocked another second off UW's already blazingly fast all-time mile record. He ran 3:50.74 to win the Mile City event in the Dempsey on Saturday, taking the NCAA lead and the World lead for 2025. It's the fourth-fastest mile ever run in NCAA history and Green led nine Huskies who broke the four-minute barrier on Saturday, the most ever by one team in one meet.
The senior from Boise, Idaho lowered his own mile PR by two seconds and broke two-time mile national champion Luke Houser's School Record by 0.99 seconds. Green now holds indoor school records in the 1,000-meters, mile, and 3,000-meters, as well as the outdoor school records in the 800-meters and 1,500-meters. This is already his second Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor this track season, having also won the award on Dec. 11.

Bodi Ligons, a freshman from L.A., broke a School Record in his first run in the Dempsey. Ligons broke the 600-meters mark held by former All-American Cass Elliott, running 1:16.48. Ligons was a two-time top-four finisher in the California state championships at 800-meters for Cathedral High School. He had a strong 400m season opening run of 47.51 back in December at the Spokane Invitational before his 600m record on Friday.
Ligons is the first Husky to take the Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor.

The Huskies are off this week before hosting the UW Invitational in the Dempsey on Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
