SEATTLE – On Wednesday, Washington head gymnastics coach Jessa Hansen Parker announced the addition of Rachel David to her GymDawg staff as an assistant coach.
David reunites with Hansen Parker after spending four seasons together with the Iowa Hawkeyes program.
"I am incredibly excited to announce Rachel as the newest addition to our coaching staff," Hansen Parker said. "Over the past four years working alongside her, I've witnessed her remarkable growth and dedication. Rachel's commitment to the student-athletes is unparalleled, and her diverse skill set will undoubtedly propel our program forward in numerous ways. I am confident she will make an immediate and positive impact."
During her five total seasons on the coaching staff at Iowa, David and the Hawkeyes produced six All-American honorees and 13 all-Big Ten selections.
After David was elevated to a full-time assistant coach before the 2023-24 season, the GymHawks saw seven different gymnasts win individual titles throughout the season, with sophomore Karina Muñoz leading the team with 14. Junior Ilka Juk and Muñoz earned all-conference honors and sophomore Bailey Libby was named to the all-championship team after posting a 9.900 on floor.
From 2020-23, David spent four seasons as Iowa's volunteer assistant coach. After helping the GymHawks capture the 2021 regular season Big Ten Championship, David's Iowa squad finished third in the league and advanced to the 2022 NCAA Regional Final, the first time under the current format. Iowa followed up with another third place Big Ten finish in 2022-23.
Before joining the coaching staff, David was a student manager for the GymHawks from 2018-20.
A North Liberty, Iowa, native, David graduated from the University of Iowa in 2020 with a degree in sport and recreation management with a concentration in coaching and a minor in physical activity and exercise nutrition.
David previously served as a coach for the Iowa Gymnastics Academy from 2016-20, where she was also a club gymnast under former Iowa head coach Larissa Libby.
