
Huskies Sign Trio Of Transfers

SEATTLE – Washington softball head coach Heather Tarr announced the additions of pitcher Madi Balk, infielder Riley Peschek and outfielder Ava Carroll.

Balk comes Montlake following two seasons at Florida State. In her sophomore season, she made three appearances and a start. Balk made her first start of the season against Alabama State, going 1.2 innings with no runs, hits and walks while striking out two. During her freshman season, Balk made eight appearances with a 1-0 record and 2.62 ERA.
Prior to FSU, Balk threw 145.3 innings in her senior campaign while striking out a Lancaster High School record 298 batters while holding opponents to a 0.096 batting average for a 0.67 ERA.

Peschek was named First Team All-Big Sky at Montana after batting .350 with 14 doubles, five triple, five home runs and 33 RBI. She became the program's third freshman to earn first team honors. Peschek ranked in the Top 10 in the conference in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs scored, hits, RBI, doubles and triples.
On defense, Peschek started all 50 games for the Grizzlies at shortstop, posting a .950 fielding percentage.
A graduate of Gig Harbor High School, Peschek was the SBLive Washington Class 3A Female Athlete of the Year as a senior. She was also named the Tacoma Athletic Commission Most Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year, the South Sound Conference Player of the Year and the GHHS Athlete of the Year.

At Mt. Hood, Carroll posted a .529 batting average with 14 home runs, 58 RBI, 78 runs scored, 14 stolen bases and drew 18 walks on her way to being named Northwest Athletic Conference's South Region's Most Valuable Player. She was also named NFCA's NWAC Player of the Year while guiding the Saints to the NWAC Championship with an overall record of 46-4.
She ranked in the top three in the conference in batting average, doubles, base hits, runs scored and slugging percentage.
In her senior season, Carroll was named the Northwest Oregon Conference Player of the Year. As a junior in high school, Carroll held a .576 batting average while leading the team in home runs, RBI and runs scored on her way to being named First Team All-State.
Balk, Peschek and Carroll joins six incoming freshmen Jade Bubke, Addie Craig, Alexis DeBoer, Sophi Mazzola, Morgan Reimer and Gabi Toney as part of the incoming class.
