April 05, 2024 | Gymnastics
BERKELEY, Calif. – The Husky gymnastics team finished fourth in session one of the Berkeley Regional with a 196.650 on Friday afternoon to conclude the Forever 50's 2024 season.
Denver and Arizona State were the top two finishers in the first session and will advance to the Regional Final on Sunday at 5 p.m. PT. Denver finished first with a 197.275, Arizona State with a 197.150 and UCLA finished third with a 197.050.
The GymDawgs started the afternoon on bars where they earned a 49.150. Deiah Moody set the tone early with a 9.850 leadoff.
Skylar Killough-Wilhelm earned a team-high 9.875 on bars en route a 39.550 all-around afternoon. The senior finished in first place on all-around, besting two UCLA, two Denver and one Arizona State all-around competitors.
Beam proved to be a challenge for Washington as the Huskies tied their lowest score of the season (48.850).
Emily Innes and Killough-Wilhelm led the way with 9.875s followed by an anchor 9.850 by Moody, but it wasn't enough to reach a 49+ as the GymDawgs were forced to count a 9.475.
The GymDawgs thrived on the floor exercise, executing the fifth highest floor score in program history with a 49.525. It was the highest score across any event this season and the first 49.5+ score for Washington.
Five Huskies finished with a 9.85+ to secure the 49.525. Caitlin McWilliams hit a 9.850 routine, followed by Taylor Russon's career-high 9.875.
Killough-Wilhelm and Innes notched back-to-back 9.950s (a career-high for Innes on the event), as Lana Navarro rounded out the rotation with a 9.9 to match her career-high.
The floor proved to be a shining spot for all competing teams this afternoon as Denver and UCLA both notched 49.575s on the event and Arizona State dropped a 49.375.
The Huskies tied UCLA with a 49.150 on vault, an event Washington has struggled with as far as consistency all season (tied 36th nationally on the event).
Killough-Wilhelm, Navarro and Mary McDonough concluded the rotation and the meet with three straight 9.85s.
After a tough start by Denver on vault (49.025) and bars (49.250), the Pioneers came back to finish on top of the first session.
With Cal and Stanford winning the second session today and advancing to Sunday's Regional Final, Killough-Wilhelm may advance to NCAA Nationals if both the Bears and Cardinal advance to Nationals.
