March 09, 2024 | Women's Tennis
LOS ANGELES – The Huskies dropp to 10-6 in 2024 after falling 4-0 to the 19th-ranked Bruins Saturday afternoon at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Despite a 6-3 victory on the third doubles court courtesy of Melissa Sakar and Catherine Gagnon, the Dawgs dropped matches on one and two as the Bruins won the doubles point.
Sakar and Gagnon's doubles victory over 66th-ranked Vagramov/Guichard from UCLA boosted the pair to 5-0 on the season.
Singles play proved to be too much for the Dawgs, as the Bruins' top two ranked players bested Washington on first and third singles.
No. 62 Fagran from the Bruins proved relentless over Erika Matsuda on court 1, defeating the sophomore 6-4, 6-1.
Astrid Olsen faced 65th-ranked Fernandez and fell 6-3, 6-4 on 3. Gagnon dropped straight sets on 5, 6-3, 6-3 as the Bruins clinched the match.
Dariya Detkovskaya was likely on her way to a singles victory as the senior came back from a 6-3 loss in the first set to dominate with a 6-0 second. Detkovskaya was up 4-0 in the third before all remaining matches were abandoned.
The Huskies return to Nordstrom Tennis Center (or Quillian Tennis Stadium if the weather permits) on Friday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m. to host Colorado.
