University Of Washington Set To Break Ground On New Home For Husky Basketball
March 05, 2024 | General, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball
SEATTLE -- The University of Washington, with partners Mortenson and Gensler, will break ground on its new high-performance basketball center this June.
The $60 million project is fully donor funded, with over $1 million coming from Husky basketball legends and alumni. The training facility is expected to be completed in August of 2025.
The facility will enhance training and development opportunities for basketball student-athletes by creating equitable spaces for each program. The equity-centric focus of the project is emphasized through the creation of two 9,800 square-foot practice courts, available 24 hours per day to basketball student-athletes.
The new home for Husky basketball will include an incredible skywalk viewing area above the courts for recruits, fans, and families to watch practices, and a welcoming foyer that will highlight legendary moments and players from the programs' history.
Mortenson is excited to contribute to yet another innovative space at The University of Washington. We see this forward-thinking facility as a way to elevate the holistic wellness of athletes, enhancing their overall experience and setting a new standard for excellence at the intersection of sports, well-being, and equity.Jennifer Kim, Project Executive
The building will also provide new internal connections between the floor level of the Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion and Graves Annex Strength and Conditioning space, which will better serve all student-athletes.
We are thrilled to continue our partnership with The University of Washington Athletics on the activation of such an exciting project. This new facility promises to enrich the experience of both the womenβs and menβs basketball programs β providing an inclusive and equitable environment. We foresee the positive impact of this transformation extending across the greater campus and community and are proud to play a role in bringing the vision to life.Kristin Jensen, Principal and Managing Director, Gensler Seattle
