March 17, 2024 | Women's Tennis
SEATTLE – The Washington women's tennis team clinched a grueling match over No. 44 Utah Sunday at Quillian Tennis Stadium to improve to 12-6 (2-2 Pac-12).
Doubles action finished quickly as ones and twos both secured 6-2 victories to give Washington a 1-0 lead.
Alexia Jacobs and Astrid Olsen earned their seventh win as the No. 1 pair and the new pair of Dariya Detkovskaya and Erika Matsuda improved to 2-1 at No. 2.
No. 67 Jacobs got her 12th singles win of her freshman campaign, taking down Utah's Barksdale in 6-4, 6-4 sets.
Olsen fell in straight sets on court 3 as Erika Matsuda took down the Utes' 75th-ranked Lopez 6-2, 7-5.
Catherine Gagnon battled back in her second set but fell on court 6 to Utah's Akid (6-3, 7-5). Gagnon's match was the last to wrap up for awhile, as Dariya Detkovskaya and Melissa Sakar's matches lasted an hour longer.
Sakar grabbed a 6-3 first set win and couldn't pull off the second set tiebreak. She dominated in the third, going up three games to none before finishing the set 6-1 and clinching the match for the Dawgs. Sakar improved to 14-3 in singles action this season.
Detkovskaya's match finished in similar fashion, as the senior picked up a dominant 6-1 first set and fell in a second, 5-7. A 6-4 third set gave the Dawgs a 5-2 edge after grinding out nearly a four-hour match.
