Hruby Matches Season-Best Round To Lead No. 5 Dawgs After Prestige Opening Round

LA QUINTA, Calif. – Led by a 66 from Petr Hruby, tying his best round of the season, No. 5 Washington concluded Monday's first round at The Prestige at PGA West's Norman Course in a tie for second at 10 shots under par.
"Overall, a pretty solid day from the guys and we showed some good stuff again," head coach Alan Murray said.
The Huskies, carding a team total of 274, are three shots back of leader Texas Tech. Meanwhile, Hruby is tied for second individually at five shots under, one shot off the lead. Despite the strong showing, the fifth year isn't satisfied.
After hanging around at even par through eight holes, Hruby made his move, rattling off four straight birdies and six over an eight-hole span.
"Petr struggled off the tee which is very unlike him but putted very well and got hot in the middle of his round," Murray said. "He said it didn't feel like 5 under but he will take it."
Teddy Lin also finished the first round strong to put himself in contention. The senior fired three birdies on the back-nine to finish three-under and in a tie for 12th.
"Teddy was steady as always and made some nice par saves to keep his round going," Murray said. "Three-under was a nice round from him."
A double bogey on 18 was the only blemish on a one-under round for Bo Peng, who is tied with teammate Taehoon Song among others for 24th.
"Bo played well and until the last hole was kind of cruising," Murray said. "Sadly, his tee shot was unlucky to finish in a bush and he paid the price but he showed a lot of good stuff today and an under par round is always good on this course.
"Taehoon had a little up and down round but his game is so close," Murray said. "He is playing with such maturity and don't be surprised if he has a low one this week."
Rounding things out was Finn Koelle, who matched a pair of bogeys on the front nine with a couple of birdies on the back, hitting the clubhouse at even par.
"Finn battled hard and he managed to dig deep and shoot even par," Murray said. "He said he couldn't get it close enough for good birdie looks but was pleased with how patient he stayed. Mature stuff from a young guy."
Over at The Golf Club at Terra Lago, Drew Hopkins finished his round one-over with six birdies on the round. Justin Hopkins shot a trio of birdies, carding a three-over 75.
"We definitely didn't have our best but we showed enough to show that we are continuing on a good track and we were competitive against the field again," Murray said. "There is plenty of golf left and we will strive to be better tomorrow."
