May 31, 2023 | Softball
SEATTLE – Led by first-team selection Baylee Klingler, three Huskies were named to the 2023 NFCA All-America team today. Klingler was joined by third-team honorees Sami Reynolds and Ruby Meylan.
Klingler, a fifth-year senior from Houston, was named to the team as a first baseman, while Reynolds, a fifth-year from Snohomish, Wash., was honored as an outfielder. Meylan, a freshman from Omaha, Neb., was listed as an at-large pitcher.
All three were named to the NFCA's All-Pacific Region team two weeks ago. Klingler and Meylan were also both named to the 2023 All-Pac-12 first team, while Reynolds was a second-team honoree.
Klingler, the 2022 Pac-12 Player of the Year, is a two-time NFCA first-team selection (2022 and 2023), while also having earned second-team honors in 2021. As the Huskies prepare for the Women's College World Series this week in Oklahoma City, Klingler leads the team in batting average (.388), home runs (12), runs batted in (47), runs (42), hits (69), doubles (14), slugging percentage (.680), on-base percentage (.488) and walks (33). She has struck out just five times in 178 at bats this season.
Reynolds enters WCWS play second on the team with her .365 batting average. She also has eight homers and 35 RBI. Reynolds earned second-team All-Region in 2022 and was a first-team All-Region selection in 2021. A member of the All-WCWS team as a freshman in 2019, she was also third-team All-Pac-12 and All-Region that year.
Meylan was a versatile pitcher for the Huskies as a true freshman in 2023. Entering WCWS play, she leads the team with her 18 wins (18-5) and 2.19 ERA, while also boasting 14 complete games and seven saves, tied for most in the Pac-12 and sixth in the nation. She has appeared in 43 games in 2023, starting 23. In the UW's Super Regional series victory over Louisiana, she threw a complete-game shutout for the win in game one, and then pitched the seventh inning for a save in game two.
Washington takes on Utah Thursday at 6:30 p.m. PT in its first game at the 2023 Women's College World Series. The game will air live on ESPN.
