Washington Athletics Collecting Donations To Serve Local Community
May 15, 2023 | General
Washington Athletics will host a hygiene and backpack drive on Tuesday, May 16th as part of its Committed Service Week.
The mission for the week is to connect UW Athletics with the Greater Seattle community by providing assistance, service, and support to local organizations in need. The organizations collecting items from the hygiene and backpack drive are Treehouse, Ronald McDonald House and Boys and Girls Clubs of King County, all of which directly benefit youth.
Community members are encouraged to bring new hygiene items and new or gently used backpacks to lot E18 (located near the Husky Track) between 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Those who donate are eligible to receive tickets to this weekend's baseball series against Cal while tickets are available.
What can you donate?
Youth tend to enjoy character backpacks, while older kids prefer blank backpacks. Durable zippered backpacks are preferred.
Hygiene products for youth can vary by preference and culture, but in general the following products are always needed:
Committed service is one of the four core values of UW Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) along with grit, growth mindset and humility. ICA staff members, coaches and student-athletes will also participate in community enrichment activities later in the week. More information on Treehouse, Ronald McDonald House and Boys and Girls Clubs:
Treehouse: We envision–and strive to create–a world where every child that has experienced foster care has the opportunities and support they need to pursue their dreams and launch successfully into adulthood. Treehouse provides academic and other essential support for more than 8,000 youth in foster care across Washington state each year.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington and Alaska supports seriously ill children and their families. The Ronald McDonald House in Seattle provides more than 28,000 nights of housing a year for families with children receiving treatment at Seattle Children's Hospital.
Boys and Girls Clubs of King County offer innovative and culturally responsive programs designed to empower youth to excel in school, become engaged leaders, and lead healthy, productive lives.
