May 10, 2023 | Softball
SAN FRANCISCO – Washington softball had seven Huskies earn eight all-conference honors, the league office announced on Wednesday morning.
The Huskies saw two named to the first team in Baylee Klingler and Ruby Meylan, the 13th consecutive season Washington has seen two or more named to the team. Madison Huskey and Sami Reynolds earned second team honors, while SilentRain Espinoza is a third team selection. Brooklyn Carter and Meylan were named to the All-Freshman Team and Rylee Holtorf landed on the all-defensive team.
Klingler is named to the first team for the third time in her career. She is second in the Pac-12 with a .412 average while third in hits (63), on base percentage (.513) and total bases (110). Klingler has hit 11 home runs this season including the walk-off home run against Arizona in the ninth to secure the series.
Meylan is the first Husky freshman since Gabbie Plain in 2018 to earn first team all-conference honors. Meylan holds a 2.08 ERA with a 1-5 record and six saves. She ranks nationally in shutouts (6), strikeouts (174) and saves. Meylan is the 11th Husky all-time to be named to both an all-conference and all-freshman teams.
Huskey is selected to an all-conference team for the second time after being tabbed a first team honoree last season. Huskey earned the first conference player of the week honor of her career after a sweep of Arizona. She holds a .311 average and is second on the team with 43 RBI and is tied for the team lead with 11 homers.
This is the fourth all-conference team honor in Reynolds' career and third consecutive second team selection. Reynolds earned her fourth Pac-12 Player of the Week honor after powering the Huskies to a sweep of Cal. This season, she is second on the team in batting average (.378), hits (54), doubles (10) and slugging percentage (.615) while third with eight home runs.
The third team selection is the first all-conference team honor of Espinoza's career and second year-end honor after being named to the all-freshman team in 2019. Espinoza is third on the team with a .318 batting average with 10 doubles and 25 RBI. She has held it down at third base with a .964 fielding percentage.
Carter has shone on the base paths this season with her 24 stolen bases, which is the second most in the conference. At the plate, Carter posts a .263 average with two doubles, a triple and seven RBI. Defensively, she posts a perfect fielding percentage in the outfield.
Holtorf earns All-Defensive Team for the first time in her career. In the field, Holtorf holds a .972 fielding percentage with 53 putouts and 85 assists. The nod marks the sixth consecutive season that a Washington shortstop has earned All-Defensive Team honors joining Klingler (2022), Sis Bates (2018, 2019, 2021) and Ali Aguilar (2017).
Washington will open the inaugural Pac-12 Tournament with a Quarterfinal matchup against Oregon State on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. from Hillenbrand Stadium in Tucson, Ariz. The game will air across Pac-12 Networks.
