Hruby Tops Lamkin Leaderboard After Two Rounds

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Washington men's golf team made its return to the Lamkin San Diego Classic Monday, completing rounds one and two of tournament play with a team score of 4-under par. Led by a dominant outing from Petr Hruby, whose 9-under 135 is tied for first place overall, the Huskies presently sit in fourth place on the team leaderboard.

Hruby, a senior from Pilsen, Czech Republic, carded 12 birdies through 36 holes. Though it was a great showing throughout the day, it was in the second round that Hruby separated himself from the field, posting an 8-under and vaulting him up the rankings.

"Great round from Petr, and to be bogey-free out there is really good playing," said UW head coach Alan Murray. "He has been threatening that for a while so to see it happen in a tournament will give him a lot of confidence."

After recording a birdie on the tenth hole of the second round, junior Taehoon Song looked poised to join Hruby in finishing under par, briefly breaking into the top 10. However, a 2-over on the 18th led to him finishing 1-over, tied for 26th overall. Close behind him, teammate Joshua Koo improved by a stroke in round two, carding an even par, and tying for 33rd place on the day.

"Josh had a gritty even par round which helped us," Murray added.

Competing as an individual, Robert Galligan posted the same score as fellow Husky Teddy Lin -both finished 3-over, tied for 40th place.

Rounding out the Dawgs' lineup was Bo Peng who finished 4-over, tied for 53rd place.

Hruby's performance Monday was critical to keeping the Huskies in a strong position near the top of the field, and they will look to build off this showing in round three.

"He was very impressive out there and it saved our team this afternoon."

The final round of the Lamkin San Diego Classic begins tomorrow, at 8:00 am.
